The bladesmithing and blacksmithing community often holds events that not only encourage the most skilled makers to join in and demonstrate their ability but also newcomers to the trade. The goal is to teach and learn from others while sharing their love for the trade they are passionate about.

One such event came to our attention, and we would like to take the opportunity to highlight it. If you are in the area of Reynoldville, Pennsylvania, this week, make plans to attend Blacksmith Gathering USA.

This year will be the fourth year for the gathering, and it is bigger and better than ever.

Blacksmith Gathering USA began in September 2020 after Bob Catman, a military veteran and knifemaker, made a Facebook post about his idea for an event. To his surprise, it garnered over ten thousand views and gained the attention of thousands of smiths throughout the country. “I know the United States has people everywhere interested in metalwork and knife making,” said Bob about the event, “Getting those people past the point of being interested and taking the next step to attend an event where they could see it in person and try it was the goal.”

After seeing such a positive reaction to his idea, Bob began planning. He used social media to spread the word to bladesmiths and makers everywhere. His efforts were very successful. This year will be the fourth year for the gathering, and it is bigger and better than ever. “We have a very diverse group made up of experienced blacksmiths as well as newer knife makers and people from the Forged in Fire phenomenon. The mixture of these different groups of craftsmen makes for a very exciting gathering.”

This year Forged in Fire Champion Christopher Hedberg will be in attendance hosting a knife-making class. Ben Secrist, another champion, will be there representing Brodbeck Ironworks and demoing their line of top-tier equipment.

It is a four-day event that is fun for the family and a one-stop shop for anyone looking for new tools and equipment.

Other vendors in attendance include Holland Anvil, Clark Iron Forge, New Jersey Steel Baron, Fiery Furnace Forge, Smelt Team 6, Gnome Hammer Forge, Red Fox Armory, Bella Forge, Gary Shriver, Gates Forge, Lamb Forge Works, KS Ironworks, Mortal Works, Uggla's Night Forge, Blee Knives, White Flint Creations, Fire Fox Forge, and many more.
